Ultipa Supports OpenCypher to UQL Conversion - Ultipa Graph

Ultipa Supports OpenCypher to UQL Conversion - Ultipa Graph

About UQL

UQLUQL (Ultipa Graph Query Language) stands as Ultipa's Graph Query Language (GQL), meticulously crafted for the Ultipa Graph Database and Graph Computing Engine.

UQL enables robust CRUD operations, versatile graph queries (spanning nodes, edges, paths, subgraphs), graph algorithms, and the management of various graph-related aspects such as graphsets, schema, property, index, server, process, task, privilege, policy, and user. It further encompasses features like filters, functions, and triggers. Comprehensive documentation for UQL is available here.

Users can harness UQL through multiple avenues, including the Ultipa CLI (Command Line Tool), Ultipa Manager, Ultipa Drivers (SDKs and APIs), and the Visual Studio Code application.

UQL aligns with the international standards set by the emerging GQL (Graph Query Language) standard, slated for launch in 2024. The Ultipa team actively contributes to the standardization organization to aid in the development and benchmarking of the GQL standard.

Convert openCypher to UQL

For developers accustomed to openCypher, an open-source graph query language developed by Neo4j, Ultipa offers a seamless transition to UQL through our command-line tool, Cypher to UQL. This tool, initially implemented in June 2022 and compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux, and Linux ARM, allows developers to convert openCypher queries to UQL effortlessly.

The Cypher to UQL tool not only enables developers to maintain their familiarity with Neo4j but also supports a smooth transition to UQL, providing a convenient bridge between openCypher and UQL within the Ultipa ecosystem.

Why UQL

In the realm of graph databases, some vendors opt to adopt Cypher's query syntax directly in the early stages of their product design, foregoing the development of a proprietary GQL. However, Ultipa took a different path and crafted its own graph query language - UQL. The primary motivation behind this decision boils down to a singular imperative: performance.

Ultipa's commitment to performance excellence is exemplified in the development of UQL. By tailor-fitting the GQL to seamlessly align with Ultipa's computing and storage framework, we ensure not only a user-friendly experience but also optimal performance in executing complex graph queries. UQL stands as a testament to Ultipa's dedication to providing a graph database solution that excels both in usability and computational efficiency. In fact, the simplicity and intuitiveness of UQL offer users insights into the underlying efficiency of the query execution process.
